Making a pillow

I wanted to make new pillows for our livingroom, since they were al old and in different fabrics. I went to IKEA and picked out some fabric out named GULLAN BLOM.. I made them in a very simple way - Maybe not the prettiest, but definitely the easiest. If you want new pillows aswell, here's a small guide for what I did.

First, as with everything else, you want to check if your cat approves of what your doing.. She was quite ok with getting new pillows for her sofa, so she decided to let me make them for her.
If your cat agrees on the fabric you chose for your pillows, you should get going

Get your pillow and your fabric. You want to lay the fabric double and have the folded end on one side of the pillow. On this picture the bottom side is not cut. Then you cut what's the left and the right side down. Finally the last side(directly opposite to the closed side) is cut. You want to add 15cm of room. You will end up with one large piece If your pillow is 20x40, you want to double the long side and add 15 cm, so it will end up 20x95.

Sew up the ends in the small ends of the fabric. You are going to be able to see these, so make them nice

Then you fold it over, but leave the 15cm free. Put them right against wrong,

Sew, sew. But wait....

The 15cm you left out.. You want to fold them nicely up on top of the rest, and sew it all together

You see?

And done. You notice the little pocket?

Now turn the right side out, stuff the pillow in and enjoy.

A: Everything you want to wear. I think it is a hard question, because yes, of course it would suit your to choose colours that match your undertone(which probably is neutral-cool with pink, as for most pales/gingers), but if you want to wear bright purple lipstick and green eyeshadow YOU SHOULD DO IT!!!! However I love all kinds of purples, especially lavenders, rosy-purple and such on most people! :)

Q: What are your thoughts on Antifa?
A: I think the vision is awesome. I don't like the militant part that occurs from time to time. Of course fascism shouldn't be here. It killed 20 million jews just a few years ago. And not to talk about the millions of people who have died since, because someone “bigger” then them, decided there lifes wasn't as worthy or important. I'm disgusted and terrified by that.

Q: Do you support the work of Antifa? If yes/no, why/why not?
A: Yes. Read above. I do not support violant, militant nor destructive acts, but I support the vision and the lobbywork behind it.

Q: What are your thoughts on Lars Von Trier - and especially the episode during the festival in Cannes about Hitler and his thougts on the 2. World War.
A: I think that it is a hard question. Never got much into it. But him saying that Hitler is great, of course makes him a complete and utmost I-D-I-O-T. I like the concept of dogmemovies though.

Q: What do you think about Denmark and the danish people? Some people say that the danish women are too "slutty", that women and men are too equal and that the country is way to socialistic - and so on. What are your thoughts on that?
A: I think that stuff like that(Danish women are slutty) originates from some very, very misconceived and disgusting views on the world and sexism, and I do not in any way support that. Being a “slut” - which by the way is such an ugly word to use, is the concept of selling your body for money or other payments OUT OF FREE WILL! And as we all know that is not in any way what the general Danish women do, just like it isn't a completely normal and very popular/large industry for women in other countries. Of course there are some – a lot, I guess – but that isn't the standard choice of work. The “men and women are too equal”-part is about the dumbest thing I ever heard. We shouldn't categorize by sex at all – to me it is absolutely unimportant. And even if you do – what is it about them being too equal? How is that even possible. Everyone should have the option for reaching the same goal, not being stopped by there race, sex, sexual orientation, gender, age, skincolour, parents livinghood, hairstyle, eyecolour, religion, spirituality or anything else. About being socialistic – To me, it is about solidarity and that is, to me, the most important thing in a society. There is nothing as to much solidarity. And about the money? Share it. I know that Americans are proud of their “independent system”, like that idiot of a presidential candidate Mitt Romney, but that is jus plain stupid, to me. It isn't without reason that Danes have been voted to be the happiest people on earth for quite a few years

A: They never were in question. There are a few companies in Denmark that don't allow them, but I just avoided them. Wouldn't want to work at a discriminating place anyway. At all

Q: How do you do that you don't have to wash your dreadlocks?
A: Hair per default cleans itself. If you just let it be. Hair isn't made for getting soap in all the time. That would be quite stupid. That would mean that the same was for horses, and imagine a horse trying to wash it's mane every other day. Plain stupid. Like human washing is. Who invented that!??!?!?!? I don't get it. Of course the body is capable of keeping itself nice.

Q: How old were you when you made your dreadlocks?
A: 16 :)

A: About 24 hours. But worked really slow!

A: Because I think it looks ugly with shaved underarms, and when I shaved it was really uncomfortable. And I don't want to walk around feeling uncomfortable all the time. I actually think that the natural body is quite sexy, as opposite to what's popular right know, with shaved everything – including yonis – looking all like a little girl – not pretty. I'm a woman. I have hair. That's life!

Q: Why do you think it is silly to put soap into the environment?
A: As mentioned above, because our bodies weren't designed to be needing soap for cleaning All-The-Time. That would be a really BAD design. You, and you dishes and your clothes will get exactly as clean without any soap, that might harm the environment when exposed, while surely harming it unnecessarily when produced.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in 320 Funtime Fuchsia is a vibrant, cold-toned pink with blueish-purple undertones. The finish is supposed to be "moisturized", meaning shiny and plumpy; And that is what it is. When applied initially it applies very patchy, and tends to slide around a little, but it will set quite quickly and keep the moisturized look. It has SPF 20, which is really nice. It wears nice on the lips, and will make your lips feel moisturized all day.

As it says above, it is supposed to be long-wearing, very pigmented and to moisturize and protect lips.

The colour is medium to full coverage, easily buildable(if you can cope with the tendency to slide around a bit), and it leaves a pretty walk-in-the-snow-pinkish stain to the lips. The consistency is creamy, quite lightweight, but noticable(!) and as mentioned before - slippery. It wears quite well due to it's high pigmentation and deep colour, and I felt the need to re-apply after about 4-5 hours. It coped well with eating an drinking, but leaves bad, bad marks on everything(even though blotted). This lipstick tends to feather a little, but it is not bad, and with a foundation and powder or lined with a lipliner or concealer it should stay ok.

I love the packaging. Though it feels a bit cheap and flimsy, the shiny purple is so pretty. It also locks up very well.

This has quickly become a to-go shade for me, due to it's pretty colour and nice look on the lips. I like the rosy scent, but if you can't cope with scent nor it's rather difficult application, this might not me for you. I think that such a beautiful shade is a steal at this price!

World's Easiest Bread

I figure a lot of you already know this wonderful recipe for quite some time, but for those of you who like to bake, whether it is on a regular basis or just twice a year to surprise the family, this is a recipe for everyone who just likes a good bread. This bread is also really easy and quick to make(apart from the raising-time) and is almost impossible to ruin. I normally start making in it the afternoon and then it will be ready next morning.

You'll need:
625g all-purpose flour
7g of yeast(a ball sized like a pea)
5dl water
A little salt

Use a quite large bowl and mix the yeast in the water(finger-warm). Add the flour and salt and grab a spoon or something to batter it together. Just till all the flours in the dough. Let it raise in the bowl for 12hours(or between 8 and 20) in the fridge or at the kitchentable. After 12 hours, you want to gently fold the dough together a few times, and then leave it on the kitchentable for another two hours. Turn you oven on at 250 degrees celcius, place your stewpan/casserole(at least 4L, no plastic parts, i recommend using iron-cast) in there and let it heat well up. When you are sure everything is heated(wait 20 minutes) you take out the stewpan, get in the dough and leave it in the oven with a lid that doesn't let any heat leave. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for anothinger 7-15 minutes. Get out your wonderful bread and ..... wait.... to eat it for 20 minutes.. Sorry.. But I promise you, when you get there it is incredible. And hardly no time at all where you have to work the dough.

I used my Le Creuset 7.4L stewpan for this. Formerly I used a römertopf for this, and that will work aswell. Just be aware that they might break.

After having used the window in our bedroom as my makeuptable for quite some time, I decided it was time to "clean out". I was lucky enough to find the nice little shelf on the street(left out for the garbage truck) and it was in a fine condition. I used to store most of it on the table and in my little strawcase, but decided to use the old storage-thing from IKEA instead. I really like how it turned out, and now we have a very nice window instead. I'm hoping to get through the house and to get everything in their final right place - And maybe become a little happier about how our apartment looks. Here are some pictures of "the project". In the inner parts of Newfoundland lies a mountain. It's called Halfway Moutain. It sticks up in a fairly level forrest, and therefore looks taller than it is.

On a hunting trip I once walked around the Halfway Mountain, and noticed how such a mountain looks different every time you move just a little bit. You can get a thousand descriptions of Halfway Mountain, and they are all equally correct.

However I feel that they lean to the more feminine side. I've been wanting gent's shoes for a long time, but finding the right ones hasn't been easy. The kitchen is small, pretty and very charming. The cupboards you see on the second photo is the only real cupboards, and that is not very much!. Shelves around on the walls, solves the problems. They aren't all up yet, but the shelf for the spices, already made cooking a little more fun. Though it's an impractical kitchen, I like it a lot. Nothing beats having a nice yard to look out on and lots of natural light.

I'd very much like some drawes instead of small white plastic holderse for kitchenware and forks/knives. Maybe that'll come around :)

Chick peas and pintobeans in water, getting ready to go to the freezer. It's nice always having them soaked and frozen

Flour, sugar and cereal is stored in large glasses in the window. You could argue that the like the darkness better, but with a minimum of cupboard space, it's simply not possible.

Living/Dining

So, I moved into a new apartment, in the absolute center of Aarhus - Ny Munkegade, if anyone knows it ;) It's an absolutely gorgeous apartment, with white painted floors, 3m to the ceiling and lots of light. I'm gonna show you a few photos of what it looks like right now, though is not nearly finished

So, Here is two large livingrooms, only seperated by a large arch. In one of the livingrooms is the sofa and bookshelf. Also, too many chairs, so I've got to see what's gonna happen with that. The sofa really needs new pillows - and to get washed, and maybe have the colour touched up a little ;) Also, you can see something laying on top of the sofa - that's a giant school-map. This one is of how the world look in 1468 and it's very pretty. Looking forward to getting it up!

In the other room there is the diningroom. Also there is officespace with a table, computer, sewing machine and so on. My big green secretary holds everything you need on the tale - wineglasses, flags for birthdays, plates and so on.

New apartment

I moved into the most beautiful apartment in the center of Aarhus last week. It's quite old, quite weird with mysterious installations for light and such. So this is a question people ask me over and over again, and I remembered I once posted this very thorough answer to the question "What does "Galapril" means?" Hope this helps!

Galapril has actually a lot of meanings to me. First off it should be seperated between Gal and April. Gal is short for Galathea. One of my favorite girlsnames. It is ancient Greek and means "she who is milk-white". The name was seen in classical myths - Pygmalion, Leucippus and Ovid's Acis and Galatea where Galatea is a seanymph that loves Acis. Galathea is a common metaphor for a statue that has come to life, after the statue of Pygmalion. Galathea is also the name of a ship, which was part of Danish expeditions in the name of science throughout the world.Galathea is also a genera of squat lobsters :D

April is a name I use very often. It is not my legitimate name, even though I've considered changing it. I'm born in April I love the month of April, but the name is primarily inspired by a danish song called "jeg vælger mig april" - "I choose April". I've translated it before on the blog. My mother's mother's favorite month was April, and she meant a lot to me. She always talked about the beauty of April. Last "gal" means "mad" or "crazy" in Danish, but can of course also be seen as "gal"="girl/woman". Gal is also a hebrew name meaning "wave" or "sea". April is an English name, originated in Latin from "Aperire" which means "to open" referring to the opening of flowers - blossoming.

So! There is a lot of meaning to it! :D

Summerparty part 1

Every year my family throws a summerparty for family and friends. We sit outside, make good food, often cooked in homemade installations(like our mongolian barbeque we build ourselves) This year we made a little grill out in garden and cooked some lambs from our own farm. They are born here, fed organic and have had a lot of space and green grass to play around on.

I made these eggplants and mixed mushrooms in marinade. It was very nice and tasty

My dad is getting some lambs of the grill. It was a turning grill, turned by a motor from an old grasscutter. Very clever, my dad ;)

I'm wearing green Adidas sneaks, an orange dress from H&M, leather poncho from Vero Moda Very, black tights, black cardigan and a purple scarf.

So I'm in Paris. My friend took this photo off me today while we were on a "walking tour" around Paris, just at the Louvre. Today we are going there for real, and probably gonna spend the whole day. Saturday we are planning on going to Versailles. I really want to see the King's private apartment, so if we are able to find a place to print online-booked tickets, we are going there. Would be absolutely wonderful. Sunday a local, we shared beers and smokes with the other night, told us that we would find a very nice antiques market up in the 18e A, where we live. Near Clignancourt and Simplon stations. We also plan on going to Centre Georges Pompidou, which is a fantastic museum.On monday we are going to see the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturalle, and I'm looking very much forward to it. It's really freezing and windy down here, and that sucks. Now I'm gonna get ready, then I'm gonna wake up my "partner-in-crime" and we are gonna go find an espresso and a chocolate croissant for breakfast. Have a nice day!

I've been wanting a nice dinnertable for quite some time. See, a lot of changes are made around here. I don't know what it's gonna end up with, but for now I need to start deciding for myself and getting better at being and functioning. I moved in with Erik and two other guys this summer, and it has taken quite some time to adjust and find out how we wanted it to be around here. One of the guys does however have the ugliest dinnertable ever. And we have very little space for one. So I've been looking around a lot to find one. This was one of my favourites:

I really like that it has drawers. I'd be storing anything like candles, napkins and other stuff. This model is made from birch, but it is available in white particle/fibre board. It's from IKEA and retails £149 :)

These are on their way home to me right now. I've been wanting a pair of brogues for such a long time and I've been trying dozens. They just don't seem to get right. Here's another test pair. I hope they'll be good. I also wanted to get a very classic, chic and sexy black pump. I think this is a good candidate. The thick, sturdy heel will make them suitable for everyday use.Both are from Nelly.com :)

Dagny is by the way one of my favourite names. It's ancient nordic/danish and means "New day". I think my firstborn girl is gonna be called Dagny, if it's my decision ;)

A new Christiania fund will purchase the majority of the buildings in the area for the sum of 76 mil. DKK. and rent the surrounding green areas for 6 mil. DKK per year.

Christiania has fought to maintain the Freetown as the property of everyone and no one. The agreement ensures that the housing in Christiania remains free of
speculation, the way it should be. Christiania is public heritage.

Regardless of the loan that now needs to be paid, Christiania must continue to contribute to Denmark and Copenhagen. Christiania must continually be able
to embrace the millions of guests from home and abroad, be a self-managing experiment and an unruly urban park. We must include those who are not accepted
anywhere else, create quirky culture and build beautiful houses that even the underprivileged can afford to live in.

The Freetown needs help shouldering this task, and that is why Christiania has issued the Christiania shares with the goal of raising 76 mil. DKK (roughly 10 mil.
Euro) to support the buyout through the Fund for the Freetown of Christiania.

This is a heavy burden and Christiania needs your help.

Pieces Accessories Nailpolishes

The other day I did something I rarely do - go to shopping centers and pick up lowbudget stuff like these. This is a nail polish by Pieces who makes a lot of different accessories. I got 5 for 9$, which was a pretty sweet deal. Of course I forgot to photograph them all - i will upload a photo later - but the shades I got was:

Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal(shown above): A blackbased silver-shimmer. It requires 4 coats or else it can be patchy.. Maybe it's good on top of another colour, since it's so clear? However the lasting power seems to be pretty great and the formula is awesome, though it is sheer. Even after 4 coats it still dries completely in 30 seconds. I've worn it all day for cooking, painting kitchen, repotting plants, cleaning, dishwashing and stuff like that, and the tips aren't even worn.

24 Carat: A "pure" gold. It's not reddish, not copperish, not silverish, just neutral(but warm, ofc) with tiny goldy glitters. Very pretty! Don't know about the lasting power, though. I think it's flattering both for dark and light skin, since it is so neutral

Turquoise Crystal: A classic turquoise. It's very pretty, and maybe a tad darker than shown in this photo. The lasting power is just about non-existent. I'm not sure if it was because I wore it on top of a clear hardener by Sally Hansen, but it just peeled off! Maybe I'll try it over, because it is sooooo pretty.. It's ok after 2 coats, but I chose 3..

Ms Jagger Green: This is a really flattering colour for my skintone. It applies really pretty - It's a good formula. It's a bit more green and a bit darker than in these photos. I don't know about the lasting power, but I'm looking forward to try it out

The last one is pink pinup which I know absolutely nothing about. Apart from that it is red. And a very classic pinup red. And not pink at all, as far as I'm concerned. But I'll photograph it tomorrow, so that you can see for yourselves

White kitchen

When we moved into our late-60s/early-70s apartment we were cursed with the original kitchen, designed in '68. Generally I think that Danish interior design from the 60s is worth remembering, but this kitchen is definitely and exception. It was the same colour as the doors/cupboards you see at the very back, everywhere(not just the cupboards, but also the walls at the sides and above the cupboards and drawes. Ugggh.. So I started painting, after applying for dispensation from the rules, that say you have to take good care of this veeerryyyy pretty kitchen.. Not.. First I washed it down in potassium hydroxide to remove fat and dirt, then it was all washed in clear water. Then one coat of primer was applied, before letting it dry for 16 hours. Then I just needed to give it 3 coats of off-white paint, before finally arriving at this - a kitchen you actually want to look at, and with so much more space.
Wonderful! :)

American Chocolate Chip Cookies

The recipe is adapted from my former classmates' mother, which always amazed people with her cookies!
Ingredients:
2 dl sugar
2 dl brown sugar
1½ tbs vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsb salt
1 tsb baking powder
6 dl flour
150 g butter, melted
125-150 g(or more!) chocolate(chips or just a chopped bar)

Mix sugars, vanilla and eggs in one bowl and salt, baking powder and flour in another. Pour the dry mix into the wet one and mix it. Add the melted butter. When properly mixed carefully fold the chocolate into the dough. Shape the dough in small balls and bake at 180 degrees celcious for 10-12 minutes. You want them to be soft and not fully done when out of the oven. Even a little lighter than the photo above shows.
