VLOG: To remove or not? (very talk-y, low-q-video, sorry!)

  1. Hi Ana, I am Michelle and I also have dreads, almost 2.5 years. Recently I decided to cut off seven locks and go all out and just shave that side, for a change. Before I cut them, I brushed them out just to see the result. The dust or 'build-up' as we call it, felt so good once removed. I was tempted to open more, so I also brushed out the other side for side bangs. I stopped here. I was sad for about a week. but I started to embrace my silky hair again. The only issue I have is breakage, or I would brush out more in the front. But the dreads that have character, they seem untouchable and I am not ready to part with.

You my dear, are very brave for going as far as you have already. And your hair still looks great, it has length! What is holding you back now is that fear of loosing all of your dreads. They are so much more than hair, I mean they still hold some cells from six years ago. It's not easy. But wearing dreads really needs that confidence in wearing them. I am sure you know this already from you first started them. Think about brushing them out being comparable to first starting them. You went through with it and dreaded all your hair, despite the mixed feelings and awkward premature dreadies, ha. Now it's the opposite... but still the same thing, just a lot more painful because you know how much joy your dreads bring, how much you have grown as a person since you began, and this time you are loosing hair, not gaining hair. But you have not lost what you have gained as a person, and all of the people you inspired to get dreads have not been lost, your dread's legacy will live on.

  2. I think that you look beautiful with all hairstyles! if dreads are tiring for you, you can cut. it's only hair! i know that its difficult and i have very long hair which are tiring for me and i'm also thinking about cutting. I hope that we will make the best decision! Take care!
